Exercise 1 - Quantify & Visualize Data
Instruction:
Gather a set of objects and separate it into category such as color, shape, pattern, and other quantifiable factor.
Example:
1. Box of Lego
2. Jar of button
3. Jar of marble ball
4. Set of colourful rubber strap
In this exercise you're required to quantify our chosen objects and arrange them into a presentable layout or chart.
The information must be presented as is, and you need to arrange the objects with relevant indicators written out with pens to help you to visualize the quantity and data. The examples of objects that can be use are buttons, coins, lego pieces, M&Ms, and more.
Firstly, I found that I have beads with different colors and shapes that could be used for this exercise, so I decided to do brainstorming on information differentiation ideas. After that, I arranged them by shape and experiment with different way to present the data.

For the final outcome, which we need to design a poster with a story being told and information presented, I decided to use the information from the various shapes and illustration on the beads to present a poster filled with 4 different emotions - HAPPY, HOPEFUL, LOVE and CONFUSED. Each with different number of beads.

Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H Infographic Poster
Instruction:
1. Organize a group of information into a visual poster that combines and utilizes the LATCH principles (Minimum 4).
2. You are required to use the digital photo editing/illustration software available to assemble the information into a LATCH infographic poster.
3. You are allowed to reuse back the images, but you have to create the rest of visuals to complete the poster.
Requirements:
1. Size resolution: A4 size.
2. Progress and submission link on E-Portfolio.
I choose the topic of Kendrick Lamar Discography for this exercise since he is one of my favorite artists. I search for more detail information online and sort out the info accordingly using the LATCH Principles.
Visual Reference
I searched for rap magazine/posters in Pinterest at first to look for some inspiration.

Design
After brainstorming and getting inspiration from the internet, I started to use Adobe Illustrator to roughly design the layout of my poster. The information was sorted out and arranged in the layout. I also created a color palette according to one of his album color concepts.

I eventually came out with 4 outcomes with different color and layout design.

Final Exercise 2
Week 1
In this week, I showed the beads I brought for Exercise 1 to Mr. Fauzi, he suggested me to play with emotions as there are different shapes and colors on the beads that could potentially indicate different emotions.
Reflection
First of all, I gained valuable insights into data visualization and storytelling through these exercises. Exercise 1 helped me understand the importance of categorization and visual representation, while Exercise 2 reinforced my skills in information structuring using the LATCH principles. Both projects challenged me to think critically about design choices and presentation methods, ultimately enhancing my ability to communicate information effectively through visual design.
Moreover, I realized how different ways of organizing information can impact how it’s perceived. The biggest challenge was balancing the visuals with the data, ensuring that the design remained engaging while still being informative. These exercises gave me a new appreciation for data visualization and how structure can enhance storytelling.
