Project 2 (A) Production Shoot

Week 5

In this week, Mr. Martin conducted lecture in Photography Studio and introduced the basics of production shoot to us. We carried out the testing on using the camera and lighting position to be prepared of the production shoot next week. 

Week 6

In week 6, we carried out production shoot following the group assigned by Mr. Martin last week. 

Week 7

In week 7, Mr. Martin conducted lecture back at D7.04 to introduce color grading to us and show us some examples to do color grading. We will need to do color grading for our Project 2 (A) production shoot video.

Colour Correction V.S. Colour Grading

The process of coloring digital video footage involves three main tasks: establishing a picture profile, color correcting the footage, and color grading the footage. Color correction is a technical process that aims to make the footage look as natural and realistic as possible, while color grading is a creative process that adds atmosphere and emotion to the shots.

The basic color terms used in color grading software and cameras are hue, saturation, and brightness (HSB). Hue refers to the color itself, saturation refers to the intensity of the color, and brightness refers to the lightness or darkness of the color. HSB color theory is used to create mood and color schemes in films and videos.

Saturation is where the colors "pop" or become "muddy" depending on the amount of grey information in the color. Adding pure white or black to the color will result in a darker or lighter brightness value.

I took the role of director and producer for the Group 1 in the production shoot task. All groupmates put a lot of effort in this project.

After the shooting day at week 6, we need to sync the audio and the footage in Premiere Pro. In week 7, Mr. Martin conducted lecture to talk about the details of color grading and assigned us to do color grading for this shooting project.

Project 2 (B) Tik Tok/ Insta Video

TikTok/ Insta proposal

In this proposal, we need to choose 3 of our favorite video trends in TikTok/ Insta with simple explanation why/what do we like about them. Hence, I started thinking back on my preference on TikTok/ Insta video since I have been using both of them for a very long time. Here are some examples of video I searched on TikTok/ Insta as my proposal.

I like this trend because it is not only sarcastic, but also very funny that reflects the real-world stereotypes.

This trend is very funny, and I like it because it is like a short drama that can be very different and unique depends on the script you want to write.

I like this video because I am also very passionate in gym workout, so this trend is quite related to my daily life, and I also like the humor in it.


In the next step, we need to infuse our creativity which we need to make it better and unique base on the idea/ theme/ trend chosen from the three ideas above.

I planned to choose the first idea because I like how funny this kind of video could be, and I want to create a video like this to make the audience laugh. I will create my own script so that it is unique. 

I will create the content based on Asian stereotypes like Asians are very good at mathematics, Asians have really small eyes etc. I will add more elaboration for each stereotype to convey it humorously.

Reflection

It is very fun to have a group project to do a production shoot. The experience was undeniably amazing, and my groupmates are very supportive during the shooting, everyone was putting effort into the project and the outcome is very satisfying for me. The TikTok project is quite new to me as I do not really do TikTok videos much, but it is fun to choose some trends I like to film it myself with addition of own creativity.
