Final Project - Stop Motion

LECTURES

Week 10
In this week, we tried out shooting stop motion video with groups assigned by Mr. Martin. We work together as groupmates to prepare the materials needed like papers, clay, tripod etc. for the trial shoot. In this trial shoot, we used DSLR camera and phone to shoot to experience two different ways to shoot a stop motion video.

Week 11
After the trial shooting in week 10, Mr. Martin conducted a lecture about editing stop motion video using Premiere Pro and After Effects. We can choose between these two software to edit our final stop motion video. The instruction is given by Mr. Martin through the Google Slide below.

INSTRUCTIONS

Final Project - Stop Motion

In the Final Project, we are assigned to create a stop motion video. Before creating it, we need to do research on it.

Story Synopsis

I decided to use paper cut as my medium in this stop motion video, I planned to write a script about a character named harry with him having a terrible day from the start in the morning facing a bunch of unlucky events.

The story is happening in the morning, with Harry being woken up by an alarm, but fail to catch the alarm and drop it to the floor. After that, when he tries to answer the phone call, the telephone cable broken down. Last but not least, Harry tripped on a toy car and fell down when he tries to reach the door.

Music suggestion (Spotify/YouTube):

I planned to use this music as my stop motion video background music because it suits the funny theme of my video.

Editing
I used the stop motion app on my phone and imported the images into Premiere Pro for further editing, there are a total of 225 images.

I also adjusted the duration for some images as I wanted to make some scenes slower or faster.

REFLECTION

This project is something new to me as I didn't have much experience on stop motion video shooting, I only did production shooting before, so I did learn a lot from this project. Editing the stop motion video is also very interesting as I can adjust the duration of some frames if I want it to stay longer and move faster. With the addition of the background music and the sound effects, it really feels like the cartoon I watched when I was a child.
