PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

1. Write a biography about yourself

 

INTRO

I am a person that likes to discover a lot of things, like cars, sports, photography, video production, acting, latte art, outdoor activities, music etc. I like to try everything and face new challenges. 

PARAGRAPH 1

There is actually something that I have never done it before and I really wanna try which is surfing. I like the beach view so much and I think one day I’ll eventually learn how to surf.

PARAGRAPH 2

One of my hobbies is photography, this is a hobby that I have developed to have lately because of joining student film production teams. I like to capture moments that is meaningful in our life not just using my eyes, but also with a camera to create unforgettable memories.

SUMMARY

I am very proactive towards discovering new things and I like to face challenges. I always think that life is a whole process of learning new things. 



2. Write a statement about your work

 

INTRO

I would like to add some elements like seawaves, coffee beans, camera and maybe have a background of space+sky to express unlimited possibilities. 

PARAGRAPH 1

Adding an astronaut helmet on my head would be nice to express that being an astronaut can discover the unknown world.

I plan to combine a surfboard with seawaves using double exposure techniques to show my interest in surfing. I will use a picture of smoke to combine with my body using photo manipulation skill because I think that human should not be limited whether it’s his or her body or mind and be free like smoke. 

PARAGRAPH 2

I also plan to create a camera frame filter to show my interest in photography. Maybe adding some other elements like coffee beans since I am a coffee lover, car tyre since I am really into car things, and film clapperboard to show my interest in filmmaking.   

SUMMARY

I am going to create myself as an adventurer in the space which has the abilities to discover unknown things.

Add an empty surfboard outline and a surfing pic from the web.

Combine them together using Clipping Mask Tool.

Add my own portrait photo of myself. Cut my body into half using Pen Tool, make selection and cut via layer. Add a smoke image covering my legs using double exposure techniques and Screen filter to combine me and the smoke.

Create a new layer and create a shape for the part I cut and add Bevel & Emboss effect to it to make it realistic.

Add a sky picture that I took when I was traveling on the part that I cut because we should always have a heart as big as the sky.

Add layer mask to crop only the sky.

Use Adobe Illustrator to illustrate a simple astronaut helmet and place it on my head using Screen Filter.

In Adobe Illustrator, use Line Segment Tool to create lines and distort them by clicking Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh

Type out the word and combine them using Clipping Mask Tool.

Add a solid color layer in Photoshop and use Brush Tool to create glow effect on the words.

PART 3: FINAL POSTER (WEEK 12)

 

FINAL POSTER 

TITLE: An Adventurous Astronaut

 

ARTIST STATEMENT: 


With an adventurous heart, this astronaut is ready to discover the unknown world and start chasing his dream. I combine elements related to my hobbies, interests and dream in this particular poster and create a space astronaut theme for it. I think it is quite cool to apply this idea because I like to discover new things and be always curious about the universe just like astronaut.






SUBMISSION (WEEK 14)

 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #1

Use Puppet Position Pin Tool on the smoke layer to make it move like real smoke. Add a mask to make it appears from bottom. 


 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #2

Duplicate the smoke layer we did just now twice and shorten them to half of their length. Place one towards intro and one towards ending. Adjust the opacity to make the smoke more realistic. 



 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #3

Create the show up and movement of the film clapperboard using keyframes and adjust rotation and position.




 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #4

Create the show up of the words, adjust position of “CHOOSE IT” and “DO IT”, adjust scale of “SHINE IT” using keyframes.




 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #5

Create movement of the tyre, adjust position and rotation using keyframes to make it falls from above and start rotating on its own.






 

ANIMATION PROGRESS #6

Add mask and adjust opacity using keyframes on the image of me to make the image appears from bottom.

REFLECTION

I am first grateful that I have finished my first semester successfully then I am proud of myself. The whole journey was not easy, but the lecturers did help out a lot throughout the semester, I greatly appreciate that. 

Being the final project of the first semester, I aimed to put 100% of effort into it, to end my first ever semester in a university well. I have learnt a lot of things in this first semester, to be honest, these three months are super valuable, from Photoshop skills to After Effects Animation skills, which are more advanced, I am proud of myself that I have mastered all of that by the time this semester ends. 

I am aiming to specialize in UI & UX Design in my Year 2, I think this semester really build my foundation in UI Design and I believe a rigid and strong foundation would aid my learning process in future semesters.
